Suggested itineraries: the Best of Victoria & Tasmania
Day 1 - Arrive Melbourne and spend 2nights in the Cultural Capital of Australia. Melbourne is home to
many markets including the legendary Queen Victoria Market, visit the Old Melbourne Gaol,
where bushranger Ned Kelly was hanged, the colonial mansion of Comon and Ripponlea.
Day 3 - Depart Melbourne, unwind and head for one of Victoria's relaxation centres, all within easy reach
of Melbourne. For over 100 years, people have escaped to the town of Daylesford, home of
indulgence and mineral springs, to unwind at spas. Overnight in Daylesford.
Day 4 - Depart Daylesford, stop for lunch in Ballarat see the legacy of the gold rush of the 19th century.
Drive up to into the Grampians National Park and the town of Halls Gap, surrounded by the
Wonderland and Mount Williams Ranges. Overnight in Halls Gap.
Day 5 - Depart Halls Gap and drive south to Port Fairy for an overnight stop. Discover more about local
maritime history at Port Fairy, a busy fishing port and one of the state's earliest settled coastal
villages. Overnight in Port Fairy.
Day 6 - Continue your journey east to Apollo Bay, stopping off at The Twelve Apostles, spectacular
limestone stacks that have formed over 20 millions years. Erosion has created fascinating gorges
and shapes in the nearby cliffs, including Lord Ard Gorge, The Arch, The Blowhole and London
Bridge. Overnight at Lorne.
Day 7 - Depart Lorne and start your journey back to Melbourne, ready for your flight to Tasmania. Arrive
Hobart and explore Battery Point and Salamanca Place. Explore the spectacular Tasman
Peninsula.Take a cruise or an evening ghost tour. Overnight in Hobart.
Day 8 - Spend the day with Bruny Island Charters and enjoy an amazing cruise from Adventure Bay. See
sheer faced sea cliffs, seals, dolphins and sea eagles. Overnight in Hobart.
Day 9 - Drive north along the East coast to Freycinet National Park. Walk to Wineglass Bay, try abseiling,
sea kayaking or a four-wheel motorbike tour. Overnight in Freycinet.
Day 10 - Drive inland via St Mary's and Fingal to the Midland Highway, then north to Launceston. Take
the chairlift ride to Cataract Gorge and discover the innovative Inversk Cultural Precinct and
Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery. Overnight in Launceston.
Day 11 - Travel west to Cradle Mountain. On the way, get close to a Tasmanian devil at Trowunna
Wildlife Park and tour the Marakoopa Caves to see the glow worms. Overnight in Cradle
Mountain.
Day 12 - Enjoy one of the many shorts walks in Cradle Valley - circumnavigate Dove Lake or climb to the
serene summit of Cradle Mountain. Indulge in a luxurious spa experience. In the evening, take a
wildlife-viewing tour. Overnight Cradle Mountain.
Day 13 - Drive to Strahan - pause at Roseberry to walk to Montezuma Falls, the highest waterfall in the
state. From Strahan, take an all-terrain vehicle tour to Henty Dunes or a scenic flight over the
wilderness. In the evening enjoy the play ' The Ship That Never Was'. Overnight in Strahan.
Day 14 - Take an inspiring Gordon River cruise across Macquaire Harbour - or ride the West Coast
Wilderness Railway through the King River gorge. Overnight in Strahan.
Day 15 - Start early to drive through Queenstown to Hobart. Stretch your legs at Lake St Clair. Detour to
Mt Field National Park and get close to a platypus at the Something Wild wildlife sanctuary.
Overnight in Hobart before flying back to Melbourne for your onward journey.
